COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY

People come into counselling and psychotherapy for many reasons. Talking confidentially in a safe and supportive setting can help you untangle what is troubling you and understand better what matters to you.

Bereavement, redundancy, ill health and other losses and setbacks can lead you to take stock. The passage of time may be bringing unhappiness or dissatisfaction. For some the past has left a painful legacy that is hard to come to terms with alone. Relationships may not be working out as you would like. You may be concerned as parent, step-parent or in another caring role about teenage or adult children, or as an adult about older relatives.

I offer a range of therapeutic help. Six to twelve sessions of counselling can bring insight in relation to a specific issue and see how to manage it better. More deep-seated difficulties take longer to deal with.

We meet initially to consider your individual needs and how they can best be addressed. If I cannot offer appropriate help I may be able to recommend a colleague or specialist agency, including group therapy. Where appropriate I liaise with medical or other professionals.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

I originally trained in counselling with the Minster Centre and subsequently with WPF Therapy. I have continued my professional development through courses with, for example, the Tavistock Clinic and the British Psychotherapy Federation.

I have Senior Accredited status as a counsellor/psychotherapist with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am a member of the Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling (FPC) and am registered as a psychodynamic psychotherapist with the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC).

My background is in work with adolescents and their families. I have worked with young people and adults experiencing physical and educational as well as emotional and social difficulties in the public and voluntary sectors, including the NHS.

I am committed to developing my sensitivity to all individuals, bearing in mind issues of difference in class, culture, ethnicity, gender, physical constitution and sexual orientation.

I work to the FPC, BACP and BPC codes of ethics.
